TinyBites and The Global Menu for Hope

TinyBites is participating in the Global Menu for Hope campaign. The campaign intends to give hope and education to children worldwide. As mentioned in their blog:

Menu for Hope has been organized for the past 5 years by the legendary Chez Pim, with proceeds going to the United Nation’s World Food Program. This year, Menu for Hope targets the development of a school food program in Lesotho, Africa. There is also hope that whatever is raised in 2008 meets or exceeds last year’s global collection of $90,000.

And there are prizes too! If you donate $10 to this great cause, it will give you a chance to win $600 in prizes provided by some food sites and businesses such as Social Bites, Farmstead Wines, and Rouxbe.

Tonight, December 17, the Latino eatery will contribute all of its profit to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. Cobre, which is located in Gastown, is hopeful to raise between $1,000 to $3,000. Other restaurants in the neighbourhood have also accepted to support the Food Bank. These restaurants include Two Chefs And A Table, Revel Room and The Lamplighter. From now until December 20, Boneta will provide envelopes to diners, asking them to make a donation to the Food Bank. They will then match all donations. Salty Tongue Café, the Irish Heather Gastro Pub, and Shebeen Whiskey House, will also be donating a part of their revenue to the Food Bank for every pint of Guinness sold until the end of December.

Petition: Stop Using Polystyrene Food Service Ware

There is an online petition going on in here. They are requesting that the Vancouver restaurants and food service providers eliminate polystyrene and similar petroleum-based food service ware from their facility, and instead, use materials that are reusable, recyclable, and/or compostable or biodegradable.

No Polystyrene in Food Services

Vancouver Restaurant Review: Stepho’s Greek Taverna

It is normal to see a long line of patient and hungry people waiting outside the Stepho’s Greek restaurant in Davie Street. And at the same time, there are dozens of other Greek restaurants in the neighborhood that are empty. Well, there is more than just one reason for this. Cheap prices, the delicious Greek dishes, the fast and experienced staff, and the large portions that you will finally get, are all crucial. The interior is warm and beautiful. The walls are richly painted, and the dark wood furniture and soft lightings present a loud and social eating place.

The menu includes delicious garlic prawns, various souvlakis, the irresistible roast lamb, and mouth-watering lasagna. All entrées are served with an enormous portion of rice, Greek salad, lemon, roast potato and pita bread.

Tips:

  • Order some appetizer, such as hummus, spicy eggplant, or garlic spread, while you check the menu. In some nights, you need to wait a while before the main course is ready.
  • When choosing a menu item, remember that the portions are huge. Ask the staff if you are not sure about the size.
  • Many dishes come with a salad.
  • If you can, beware of the weekend nights, or prepare for a long waiting line.
